One of the newest bookstores in our area, Around the World Books is located in the space formerly occupied by Paco's Barber Shop, just east of Zeli's Coffee.
Around The World Books features quality used hardbacks and paperbacks in every price range, with discounts to La Cañada Flintridge members of Friends of the Library, as well as attractive weekly specials.
They have a substantial number of children's books available, and offer occasional visits from children's authors.

Recently opened to great fanfare, the Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse offers an in-depth collection of books and personal service in an historic building built by Senator Flint. They offer stationery, cards, gift papers, personal journals, cookbooks, graphic novels, horror, performing arts, music, personal money management, local interest, and a complete Harry Potter section, to name a few — along with a large selection of coffee drinks, smoothies and pastries to satisfy your palate. There is a selection of used books, as well as jewelry, toys, a classy selection of bookends, and their own private label, first press gourmet olive oil.
Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse is locally owned and operated, and offers book club meetings, children's reading hour, special events, LCUSD-recommended books, works of local artists and authors — even the occasional musical entertainment on weekend evenings. Since 1991, La Cañada Books & Toys has been dedicated to providing high quality children's books and toys that foster imagination, intellectual curiosity, creativity, and problem solving. They specialize in toys that encourage play and interaction from infancy through 12 years of age. Their literature selection includes classics, award-winning Newbery and Caldecott titles, as well as new releases by well-respected children's authors.
La Cañada Books & Toys also stocks, year-round, the required core literature titles for grades K-12 in the La Cañada Unified School District. For six weeks, during the start of each new school year, the store keeps track of all core lit book purchases made by LCUSD parents and students (teachers receive a copy of their own book at no cost). Ten percent of the net sales are donated back to each school's PTA. To date, over $13,000 has been donated by La Cañada Books & Toys to the local public schools' PTA's.

Once Upon A Time, the family bookstore in tree-lined Montrose Shopping Park, has been a community touchstone for more than 40 years. Opened in 1966, it is the oldest children’s bookstore in the nation. They specialize in quality literature for children of all ages, with a choice selection of adult titles as well. Their homey, antiques-laden bookstore has been selected by Sunset Magazine as one of 5 “great” children’s bookstores, and they pride themselves on being able to offer personalized service to ensure just the right book.
They feature, as well, a handsome selection of fiction and nonfiction for adults.
They offer fast special orders (usually filled in 2-3 days), Book of the Month club, Gift Basket service, delivery service to local customers, and Direct-To-Home shipping.
They cater to local community book groups by giving a discount on Book Club selections. They have an ongoing Adult Book Group (over 23 years strong!) that meets the 2nd Tuesday night of every month, as well as a Mystery Book Club that meets the 4th Wednesday morning of every month with tea & scones. Penelope's is a garden cafe, book store and gallery. Feel free to drop by for a delicious meal in their beautifully-landscaped garden, or take a seat by one of their inviting fireplaces and browse through a select group of books. They feature both new and used hardcovers and paperbacks, as well as a small selection of used magazines.
You might want to stop in Saturday mornings at 10:15 for childrens' story time, or browse among their interesting and eclectic selections of visual art, wood carvings, jewelry, ceramics, specialty foods, and skin care products, just to name a few. Those who mourn the loss of the former Tutor Cottage will feel right at home at Penelope's.
Penelope's features live entertainment every Saturday, as well as the occasional Friday, from 11:45 am to 2:45 pm. Its large indoor and outdoor dining areas provide the perfect atmosphere for that bridal, baby, or wedding shower.
